Ama Qamata rose to popularity as the leading actress on Netflix’s second African original series ‘Blood & Water’. Ama plays the role of Puleng Khumalo in the show which came ranking in as a number 1 show in the US and the UK on. The actress then starred in the popular local television series, Gomora, where she played the role of Buhle Ndaba, a spoiled teen forced to relocate from the suburbs to a township because of her father’s debts.
Ama has been featured in GQ South Africa and has been profiled in international publications such as the New York Times, NY Post and Teen Vogue. She has been identified as a style icon and won the Next Big Thing Award from The South Africa Style Awards. Ama has been a brand favourite and chosen as a brand ambassador for Ponds, Nespresso and Mr. Price. Ama is also a brand ambassador for the Adidas, I’m Possible and became part of the Impossible Is Nothing campaign in 2022. The campaign was established as a commitment to women in sports. Ama played the role of a young Congolese woman who joins a renowned all-women boxing club in the border city of Goma – Fight Like A Girl. An anticipated film which will be released in 2023.
Ama believes in the importance of giving back to her community in South Africa and has taken on the role of a philanthropist by paying the tuition for 20 students to attend high school – she has numerous goals in impacting society positively and giving back.
